WINL beginning of 24/25 season tournament
(BOST)
sunday 8th september 2024
On Sunday the 8th of September Wavell Invitational Netball League hosted the first Beginning Of Season Tournament (BOST) since before the COVID pandemic.
In the morning we welcomed 22 teams and 150+ netballers to the Wavell netball courts in Farnborough for a 9.30 first centre pass. Across the morning session we had 14 rounds of netball with each team getting at least six matches.
At the lunch break we ranked the teams results and regrouped in to a cup for the top four of each groups, and a plate for the bottom four teams.
Unfortunately the weather was not on our side and after some thunder and lightening the decision was made to cancel the afternoon round and go straight to play offs for the cup and plate winners and runners up medals after the worst of the storm passed.
The plate play off was between Heath Hoops 2 and Cardinals with Heath Hoops taking the win.
The winners of each group played a thrilling round robin which ended with a cup final match between Farnham NC and Complete Netball. After a closely contested match (where several of the new rules were seen in action!) the crowd of spectators were excited to watch the match finish in a draw at full time, which lead to golden goal! After several tense passes Farnham secured the winning goal to huge cheers from the crowd.
There was brilliant team work from the WINL committee who worked tirelessly to put on an excellent tournament.
We are excited for next year to make it even better implementing some learnings from our first tournament in several years. Feedback was very positive and the teams enjoyed a brilliant day of netball.
